Day 2 With Juice Fasting
Today was a rough day. I was feeling hunger no matter how much I filled my stomach. At lunch time I decided to get creative with a vegetarian soup, so I boiled chard, carrots, lentils, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions with some freshly ground peppercorn and a dash of Cayenne pepper and a dash of Himalayan salt. The thing was so good and I was feeling so hungry that I gulped down 6 medium sized bowls. Yes 6. Half an hour later, I was hungry again! And this hunger was with me the whole day despite the fact that I also consumed about 4-5 cups of juice, steamed broccoli, salad and water. So, it was overall a tough Juice Fast Day 2.
Is it All in Our Head?
I think my body has gotten so addicted to starches and dairy products that if I don’t have them on a particular day, especially bread, it’s as if I didn’t eat. I didn’t have that much cravings for meat though, I could go for a few days with no meat. But bread and dairy products are a must. I’m Lebanese. How can a day go by without a Labneh sandwich? Perhaps readers with a nutrition background would have a much better understanding of what could be causing such cravings in the body. I want to think that this is all psychological, but I feel that it’s physiological as well.
Realizations Of Blessings Due to Juice Cleanse
My 2nd day of juice fasting made me realize how spoiled we are, and how much we take our blessings for granted. Really. I am in a position of voluntary fasting with the means to break it at any time and eat whatever my heart desires. Yet, it felt so difficult. And just a few hours flight away from me, in many countries in the East African region, especially in Somalia, there are millions of poor men, women, children, and elderly who go for days at times with no food, and drink polluted water. Yet they’re patient and they don’t complain.
Juice Fasting is Detox
I’ve so far noticed, that at “random” times, drinking the juice makes my skin feel a tiny bit itchy. At times even my facial skin feels warmer and a bit tingly. I initially thought that I have allergies against some of the juice ingredients, however this happened so randomly, and with no pattern in juice ingredients that it may be something else. I googled around and it looks like this is a common experience with juicing and many folks attributed it to detox especially in the first few days. When our body goes into a detox mode and starts flushing its toxins in the blood stream, such itching may occur.
Now, on to the reports from our friends Lino and Gina on their day 1 fasting:
Lino’s Day 2 Summary
Weight Measured in Morning: 234lbs
Foods Consumed: 4 cups of juice made with kale, chard, parsley, cucumbers, peach, carrots, Apples, beets, 1 salad, plenty of water. One tea(my morning tea).
Allergies/Medical Condition: High BP
Notes: Day 2 felt good after eating the salad. My main challenge was the lack of snack’s I am not really a big bread eater
I need to drink more during the day, I try to get 2.5 – 3L in a day the water make me feel full and it flashes things out. My energy is starting to come back and I have to be careful and not do something crazy like start running every day, for now I am walking about 3miles and plan to start jogging/running by this coming Sat.

Hang in there! It’s probably hard the first few days. You can make it past it. Will power!
