I am Nervous to Try Juice Fast for the First Time
I’ll be honest, I’m a bit nervous about this. I’ve tried juicing before, but never have I gone on a 15-day juice fast in one stretch. Â What propelled me to take on this challenge was an emotional impulse after watching the documentary “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” a few days ago. Â I had known for a long time that I needed to get my act together and fine tune my health. That documentary was the tipping point for my motivation. Let’s see how Juice Fast Day 0 affect my routines .
Being true to my Lebanese roots, I especially love eating “Pita” bread. I have it on a daily basis with Labneh, Zaatar, eggs and virtually anything. Have you met anyone who eats pasta with Pita bread? Word! Â So as a result of such high starchy foods and the lack of exercise, yours truly packed on a few over the years. Â I went from size 32 when i first came to the US in the late 90’s, to size 40 now. But not for long.
No Turning Back!
I usually keep personal things to myself, however the reason I decided to go public with this juicing diet is to use crowd pressure as a motivation. I know I flaked in the past on diets I said I’d do. But now, everyone is watching, I can’t mess around.
Lee Corsis, an old colleague and Gina Ghafari a blog fan decided to embark with me on this trip. Thank you guys, your decision is an extra motivation for me, and I hope that we can all motivate one another to stay on course. Lee said he’s tried such a juicing diet before and loved it! And as soon as he saw my facebook post about my 15-day diet, he jumped on the wagon! Way to go!
Our fasting starts today, on 9/1/2012 and we’re going to follow the 15-day program by Joe Cross on www.JointheReboot.com as much as practically possible.
Getting Ready For Juice Cleanse
Technically speaking, this fasting should be simple. All what you need is a juicer, and fresh veggies and fruits. According to nutritionists on Joe Cross’ website, the diet would include some days with solid foods which are solely fresh fruits and veggies, and related soups. No proteins, no starches, no artificial sugars.
I will be using a Breville Juicer that I recently bought from Amazon for $99 and which I’ve been trying for the past few days now. So far like it with the exception that its scraps bucket is not that large and fills up fast. However for a 1-2 persons juicing it’s not bad at all.
As part of my daily diary, I will include a daily status of certain vital signs such as weight (measured first thing in the morning), mood, energy level, skin condition, allergies (if any), and medical conditions. I will also be documenting the $ cost of veggies and fruits.
Tonight I weighed 234 lbs. I bought fresh veggies and fruits for about $30 and juiced them already into close to 1 gallon of liquids.
Juicing Strategy
We will be testing a few recipes and perhaps making up our own as we go. The focus will be on having 70% veggies and dark-leafy greens (chard/spinach…etc) and 30% fruits. I may personally include some fresh ginger root, and other “exotic” veggies according to availability. Â Moreover, I will try to visit our local farmer’s market to get the freshest possible harvest, and if not I will try my best to get everything organic from the local supermarket in order to reduce the intake of pesticides and GMO’s. The goal afterall is detox! Finally to clean veggies well from germs, I will be soaking all veggies and fruits in fresh water + a 1/2 cup of white vinegar.
if im going to juice for 15 days how much juice do i need to drink per day or is there a limit
i would like to see step by step. A recipe and what was done each day. Good luck thank you
Hi Lisa – In my case I ended up juicing pretty much whatever greens I found in the organic section of our local grocery store. My recipe was mainly swiss chard, parsley, kale, cucumbers, celery, lemons, ginger, beets, some grapes, and some apples. If you want a more in-depth recipe and break down of the juicing diet, I highly recommend you check out http://www.JointheReboot.com .. they actually have a day-by-day program, and have a lot of the impact of the diet on us.
I did the reboot last year for 60 days and I felt absolutely terrific. At about day 55 I was sick of it. It’s probably time to do it again. Best of luck.
Thank you Maureen
Good luck to you and Lee , we all support you
Keep all of us posted its very interesting and I would like to know the result
Thank you Wasim
Good luck! I watched the same documentary and did the fast with great results. Didn’t go into the detail of recording my progress but I lost weight and definitely had a lot more energy.
Thank you Ali and I’m glad you got to try it too. I look forward to seeing what it’s all about 🙂
